There have been some concerning reports in the media about a potential shortage of supplies for treatment of patients in Intensive Care Units suffering from Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) caused by Coronavirus. For Coronavirus patients who are on ventilators, over 28% will develop AKI and require dialysis treatment.
In Wales, kidney doctors and critical care specialists are working hard to ensure that available resources are shared and sent to the Intensive Care Units in the areas of greatest need.

Kidney Wales has received enquiries from patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are worried about this matter. The Welsh Renal Clinical Network and the British Renal Association have provided reassurances that they do not anticipate problems with supplies or materials for people with chronic conditions who require long term treatment of heamo and peritoneal dialysis.
